How to report sexual assault in Sydney

the emergency number
Call 000 for police, fire or ambulance in an emergency. 1800RESPECT, the national counselling line, can be reached on 1800 737 732, or by text on 0458 737 732.

where to report
You can report to NSW Police Force in person, by phone, or online. If you are 16 or older and do not want to speak with an officer straight away, NSW Police Force offers the Sexual Assault Reporting Option as a confidential online form. You can also contact a Sydney Sexual Assault Service before deciding whether to involve police.
what to bring
NSW Police Force does not require any documents to lodge the Sexual Assault Reporting Option form or to make a report. Every question on the form is optional, and NSW Police Force says you do not have to give your name.
the exam window
NSW Health guidance says a medical and forensic examination can only be done in the 7 days after a sexual assault, to collect evidence in time. Exams are carried out at a Sexual Assault Service, often attached to a Sydney hospital.
the deadline
NSW Police Force states there are no time limits for reporting a sexual assault. You can report immediately or wait until you are ready, and police can still investigate later.
