Call 000 for police, fire or ambulance if you are in immediate danger. 1800RESPECT, the national counselling line, can be reached on 1800 737 732, or by text on 0458 737 732.

where to report
You can report to your state or territory police in person, by phone, or in some states through an online option. In New South Wales, the Sexual Assault Reporting Option lets you give police information without starting an investigation. You can also contact a Sexual Assault Service before deciding whether to involve police.
what to bring
No documents are required to make a report to police or to access a Sexual Assault Service. Identification can help confirm who you are, but its absence will not stop you from reporting.
the exam window
Full Stop Australia says a forensic examination is best done within 72 hours, though evidence can sometimes be collected up to a week later. Exams are carried out by a trained doctor or nurse at a Sexual Assault Service, usually based in a hospital.
the deadline
There is no single national deadline for reporting sexual assault to police, and limitation periods for prosecution differ by state and territory. The National Office for Child Safety confirms there is no statute of limitation on reporting child sexual abuse.
