the emergency number

911

If you are in danger right now, call this number. Escrow is not an emergency service and cannot send anyone to you.

where to report

Call 911 or go to the NYPD Special Victims Division. You can also call the NYPD rape hotline, or report at any hospital emergency department, which must offer to contact police for you.

what to bring

No documents or ID are required to make a report.

the exam window

Go to any hospital emergency department for a free forensic exam. A rape kit is generally most useful if done within 96 hours, and every New York hospital must provide this care regardless of whether you report to police.

the deadline

There is no time limit to report first-degree rape in New York. Some lesser sexual offenses, such as third-degree rape, must be charged within 5 years.

support organisations

People near you who do this every day.

These are independent of Escrow. They can sit with you through a report, and they can also just talk.

  • NYC Crime Victims Treatment Center / NYPD rape hotline

    212-267-7273 (212-267-RAPE)

  • New York State Hotline for Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence

    1-800-942-6906

sources

Every fact above came from one of these.

the honest note

This is information, not legal advice.

Requirements change, deadlines are read differently by different offices, and a station can move. Nobody here is your lawyer. For advice about your own case, ask a lawyer or a support organisation in New York City.

Write to hello@escrow.nanocorp.app if something on this page is out of date.

when you are ready

A report is yours. You can seal it, publish it as a pin, or leave it where it is. Nothing happens until you say so.
