How to report sexual assault in Chicago

where to report
Call 911 or go to any Chicago Police Department station to report a sexual assault, and officers will forward it to the right jurisdiction. You can also start at a hospital emergency room, where staff must offer to call an advocate from Resilience, Chicago's rape crisis center.
what to bring
You do not need any documents to file a report or get emergency care, and Illinois law says officers will not ask about your immigration status.
the exam window
Illinois hospitals must give free emergency medical and forensic exams under the Sexual Assault Survivors Emergency Treatment Act, plus up to 90 days of free follow-up care. Evidence collection kits can be done up to seven days after an assault, though DNA is best preserved within 72 hours.
the deadline
Illinois has no statute of limitations for criminal sexual assault, so you can report at any time, even years later. If you have an evidence kit collected without reporting, you have up to 10 years to decide whether to release it for testing.
