where to report
Call 911 to report to the Vancouver Police Department, whose Sex Crimes Unit reviews every report. You do not have to speak to police yourself: a community-based victim service worker can file a third-party report to police for you under BC's Third Party Reporting program.
what to bring
You do not need any documents to make a report or get medical care, and hospital staff will not call police without your permission if you choose not to report.
the exam window
Vancouver General Hospital's Sexual Assault Service gives free medical care and forensic evidence collection 24 hours a day, for anyone 13 or older assaulted within the last 7 days, including visitors from outside BC or Canada.
the deadline
Sexual assault is prosecuted as an indictable offence under Canada's Criminal Code, and indictable offences have no time limit for laying charges, so you can report at any time.
