How to report sexual assault in Mexico City

This is what we have read and stored about reporting in Mexico City. Read only the part you need. You do not have to decide anything today.

Checked against official sources on 27 August 2026.

the emergency number

Call 911 for police and medical emergencies. Call LOCATEL on 55 5658 1111 (available 24 hours) and ask for "Línea Mujeres", or call the Fiscalía's Centro de Justicia para las Mujeres 24-hour line at (55) 5290 9280.

If you are in danger right now, call this number. Escrow is not an emergency service and cannot send anyone to you.

where to report

Go to a Centro de Justicia para las Mujeres (Women's Justice Centre), run by Mexico City's Fiscalía General de Justicia (FGJ), where police, prosecutors, doctors and psychologists work in one building so you do not have to retell your story in multiple offices. You can also go directly to the Fiscalía's specialized Fiscalía de Investigación de Delitos Sexuales (sex-crimes prosecutor's unit) or to any Ministerio Público (public prosecutor's office) to file a denuncia. LOCATEL and Línea Mujeres can tell you which office is closest and can arrange an escort or referral.

what to bring

You do not need any documents to file a denuncia. If you have an ID bring it, and bring any clothing, messages or other evidence you may have, but their absence does not prevent you from reporting.

the exam window

Go to a Centro de Justicia para las Mujeres, a public hospital emergency room, or the Fiscalía's forensic medical service (Servicio Médico Forense) as soon as you can; they can do the medical-legal exam and collect evidence even before you decide whether to file a formal complaint. HIV post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) is most effective started within 72 hours of the assault and is available free through public health services, and emergency contraception should be taken as soon as possible and works within 120 hours.

the deadline

There is no short deadline. Under Mexican federal and Mexico City criminal law, the period to prosecute a serious sexual offence like rape (violación) generally runs for as long as the maximum prison sentence for that crime, which can be well over a decade, so you can still report well after the assault; a lawyer or the Centro de Justicia can confirm the exact period for your case.

These are independent of Escrow. They can sit with you through a report, and they can also just talk.
